COVID-19 STIFLES EID-EL-FITR CELEBRATIONS

As the Muslim world prepares to celebrate Eid-el-Fitr, marking the end of its most sacred month, it is faced with stringent lockdown measures that will no doubt dampen festivities.

Given that Eid-el-Fitr is a joyous moment for the community, with traditions emphasizing large gatherings, gift-giving and sharing meals with friends and family, it is a particularly tough moment for believers.

All hope of possible reduced effect of the pandemic to permit normal interpersonal interaction before the Eid celebration was lost, as it became apparent that this year, Eid-el-Fitr prayers would have to be performed indoors, instead of in a mosque with fellow believers as traditionally done.

The Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI) has advised Nigerian Muslims to say their ‘Eid’ prayers at home with their families or alone if there is no family member to join them.

It is permissible to perform Eid-el-Fitr prayer at home under exceptional circumstances of the current pandemic situation.

Despite these trying times and unaccustomed situations we find ourselves this year, I heartily congratulate and felicitate with all the Muslim Ummah in Kosofe Local Government Area, and around the world, for the successful completion of the holy month of Ramadan. I say happy Eid-el-Fitr to you all.

I congratulate and rejoice with you on this glorious and festive day, because we have all deeply imbibed the pure essence of Ramadan after 30 days of intense fasting.

The month of Ramadan is no doubt a holy month where we abstained from all immoral acts forbidden by Almighty Allah in the Holy Quran. It is a period where we increased our knowledge, acquired wisdom and extended good deeds and kind gestures to our fellow beings. On this note, I urge us to continue with these good deeds, and avoid immoral acts just as we have done in the past month.

Beyond the scope of our communities, let us strive to sustain the pure essence of Ramadan in our country, by showing love to one another, promoting peaceful co-existence, and tolerance.

I implore us all to give our President, Muhammadu Buhari, and the Lagos state Governor, His Excellency Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the necessary hand of support to accomplish the tasks they are saddled with, and ultimately take our state and country to greater heights.

I thank all the residents of Kosofe Local Government Area for the immense support, cooperation and understanding shown to my administration. I assure you that we will not relent in our efforts to make Kosofe Local Government greater.

Once again, Happy Eid-el- Fitr to you all.

Signed:

HON. AFOLABI SOFOLA

EXECUTIVE CHAIRMAN

KOSOFE LOCAL GOVERNMENT.
