OKANLAWON, KOSOFE WARD C COUNCILOR ASSURE ON YOUTH CAPACITY BUILDING AND UPGRADING OF SPORT FACILITIES .

The Lawmaker representing Kosofe Constituency 1 in the Lagos House of Assembly, Hon. Sanni Ganiu Babatunde Okanlawon and the Councilor of Ward C in Kosofe Local Government Hon. Ibrahim Bakare Olawale have both assured the youths of Kosofe Local Government Area of Government’s readiness to develop youth capacity and upgrade the sporting facilities in the area.

The two lawmakers gave these assurances in separate interviews granted Kosofe Voice on Saturday 14th December, 2019 at the final of Oluwa Ni Nshola football tournament played at Araromi Sport Development Centre, Gbagada.

Hon. Okanlawon stated that in order for the youths to be positively engaged and become entrepreneurs, government must constantly create enabling environment to develop youth capacity through different vocational training and skill acquisition programmes.

He said by so doing the youths would have something productive to do when white collar jobs are not available, while also noting that government alone could not provide employment opportunities for everyone.

He said: ” In terms of employment, we know that Government can not employ everybody. The white collar jobs are no longer there. We must strengthen the micro, small and medium enterprises. We must continue to do more and more of that. That’s what made developed countries like the Asian Tigers: Japan, China, India and all of them; even USA, UK etc, they built their middle class in terms of entrepreneurship, in terms of creating the enabling environment for the youths to have something doing.

“Carrying certificates 2 degrees, 3 degrees, master degrees are not enough, we must build capacity in ourselves so that if the white collar jobs are not forthcoming we must have something to fall back on. And that is entrepreneurship”.

The Lagos House committee Chairman on Business and Commerce revealed that on his own part, he had already started to contribute his quota towards youth capacity building by organizing vocational training in renewable energy for the youths in his constituency.

He added that the first batch of those trained had already graduated and had been linked up with the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund to secure loans in order to start up their businesses.

He said: “I have already started with the training of our youths in vocational training, in the art and science of renewable energy. We thought them how to produce inverters, clean energy devoid of carbon monoxide.

“The first batch has already graduated and i have introduced them to Lagos Employment Trust Fund to access fund so that they can start up their businesses. More and more of that will be done by the grace of God”.

On the issue of upgrading the sport facilities in his constituency, Okla, as he is fondly referred to, assured of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s commitment to improve all sporting facilities in Lagos State, including the ones in Kosofe.

“Government is a continuum. The past Government put up this place and for sure the present one will improve on it and add value to it. That I can assure you. The present government is a very serious one and you can be rest assured that all our campaign promises will be delivered”

In a similar vein, Hon. Ibrahim Bakare Olawale, the Councilor of Ward C in Kosofe Local Government Area disclosed that a committee has been set up to improve the quality of the playing surface of Araromi Youth Development Centre in the first or second quarter of the coming year.

He said the committee is headed by the Supervisor for Agric, Youth, Sport and Social in Kosofe Local government, Hon. Oyeyemi Oyetayo.

While praising the organizer of Oluwa Ni Nshola football Tournament for a job well done, Hon. Bakare disclosed further that plan is in the top gear to organize another grassroots football competition probably in the 2nd quarter of next year to positively engage the youths in his ward.
