Similarly, the tournament project coordinator, Mr. Adewale Tokan Lawal, stated that the tournament was conceptualized to positively engage the youth. He said: “the initiative is driven by the need to help the youth in the community to become better people especially during the ember season. Ember season is known for getting the youth engaged in negative vices.”

“Part of our drive in Lagos East is to look into our youth and try to get them engaged in something, particularly this period of the year, so that they don’t engage themselves in things that will make them victims of the law.

“Sports is one thing that unites people, most especially football. So the initiative has taken football as a tool for youth engagement. As you can see today, so many people have come from different parts of the state to come and view these matches”.

The popular football tournament is the initiative of a vibrant young man, Hon. Lanre Oladunjoye a.k.a ‘Omo Olore’, who is currently the Supervisor for Education in Kosofe Local Government.

The tournament is well known to have produced great football players plying their trades at home and abroad.
